Today was an unusual day as far as the law was concerned. Iwent to law school when the Army put me out. The Department of Veterans Affairs said we will pay you to go to schooland become anything you want and we will pay for the school also. I said sendme to law school and they did.
When I graduated I was to old for anyone to want to hire me.Graduates of law schools get hired in their twenties. The reason being they canbe worked to death. It is not unusual for a new attorney to work 80 or 100hours per week. Everyone has to punch their ticket. If you are beyond 30 yearsforget it. There is no way you will ever get a position in a large law firm orin most small ones.
So I didn't get a job and I needed to have an income becauseI already had a family. I started in the mortgage industry and worked some lawcases on the side. Most of the law I practiced were cases I was involved in.
Today there were a number of cases that came to myattention. The first was Mark Meadows. Mark had been President Trump's Chief ofStaff. He was involved in all the decisions that were made when he was theChief of Staff. He knows where all the skeletons are buried. He was involved ineverything leading up to 1/6 and everything that happened after. He had filed asuit with the Supreme Court of South Carolina to quash a subpoena asking him totestify in Georgia. The Supreme Court of South Carolina unanimously voted to disallow his suit. They stated he had to testify about he knew happened leading up to 1/6/2022 tothe Georgia Grand Jury.
The other case that was of note was the conspiracy trail of the leaders of theOath Keepers. Five members of the group including Stewart Rhodes the leader anda graduate of Yale School of Law were tried for seditious conspiracy. Only Rhodesand his other Kelly Meggs were found guilty seditious conspiracy. The maximum sentence is20 years
All the defendants were found guilty of obstructing anofficial procedure who also included Kenneth Harrelson, Thomas Caldwell, andJessica Watkins with a sentence of not more than 5 years.
Watkins and Meggs were found guilty of conspiring toobstruct an official procedure. The Sentence for this crime is up to 20 years.
In addition to seditious conspiracy, Rhodes was also found guilty of obstruction of an official proceeding and of tampering with documents/aiding and abetting. He was found not guilty of conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy to prevent an officer from discharging duties.
In addition to seditious conspiracy Meggs was also found guilty of conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding, of obstructing an official proceeding, of conspiring to prevent an officer from discharging duties and of tampering with documents. Meggs was found not guilty of destruction of government property/aiding and abetting. Harrelson was found guilty of obstructing an official proceeding, of conspiring to prevent an officer from discharging duties and of tampering with documents.
In addition to the seditious conspiracy acquittal, Harrelson was found not guilty of conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding and destruction of government property.
Watkins was found guilty of conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding, obstructing an official proceeding, conspiring to prevent an officer from discharging duties and civil disorder. In addition to the seditious conspiracy acquittal, Watkins was found not guilty of destruction of government property/aiding and abetting.
Caldwell was found guilty of obstructing an official proceeding and of tampering with documents but not guilty of seditious conspiracy, conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiring to prevent an officer from discharging duties.
There are a number of people that attacked the Capital who remain to be tried. Of the 955 people that have already been charged 458 have pleaded guilty and a number have been tried and found guilty already. The rest will be tried but because of the numbers of people and Covid-19 it has slowed the trails.
Coming up shortly, maybe shortly depending of your definition of shortly, are trails for seditious conspiracy are members of the Proud Boys and QAnon. These cases will be held as was the trail of the Oath Keepers who will now appeal their sentences.
While all these trails are going on the Department of Justice is just getting started on those who planned the 1/6/2021 riot. Steve Bannon, who was already found guilty is awaiting trail as is Roger Stone and any number of high ranking government officials as well as some who remain to be named. There is an investigation that the House of Representatives started and will conclude with the DOJ who will eventually bring charges against them and probably the ex-president. Although that is still something that remains to be seen.
The law will be done before this is over. People will be charged, the guilty will be convicted and put in jail. Hopefully there will never be another 1/6/2022. At this point it seems that only because of a few people that had power were we able to escape with our government in tact.

I hope you are correct Stephen. That we have been able 'escape with our Government intact'. I do have absolute respect and confidence in the DOJ (as it now stands). What I do not have confidence in is the House of Representatives for the next two years, especially if wooden headed Kevin McCarthy is speaker. I'm afraid we have voted ourselves a "Do Nothing" congress.
Thank you, Stephen. I hope your daughter is well and recovering from whatever put her in the hospital
